SQÜRL (Jim Jarmusch & Carter Logan) pay tribute to Man Ray on new album

SQÜRL, aka the duo of Jim Jarmusch & Carter Logan, have been using the short films of dadaist and surrealist icon Man Ray at their performances from the start and now they’re paying tribute to him on new album, Music for Man Ray, which will be out May 17 via Sacred Bones.

“It’s a journey we want to take the audience on, illuminating themes throughout these films. They are discrete, but there are also recurring echoes throughout the whole program,” says Logan, while Jarmusch adds, “We feel very proud to be Man Ray’s backup band.”

The album features their scores to four silent Man Ray shorts — Étoile de mer (1928), Emak bakia (1926), Le Retour á la Raison (1923), and Les Mysteres du Château de Dé (1929) — which make up anthology Return to Reason which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 2023. No music has been shared from the album yet but you can check out artwork and tracklist below.
